Pipe Fitter 1st Class

Overview

First-class pipefitter, also referred to as a journeyman pipefitter, is responsible for fitting pipe consisting of various materials such as steel, galvanized, copper, copper-nickel and stainless along with the appropriate values and fittings, utilizing various tools and equipment in accordance with drawing, arrangements, and blueprints.

Pipefitter shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Pipefitter may be required to work either day or night depended upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time.

Pipefitter stressed the practice of working safely in all situations with safety producers meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.

Responsible For

  • Must Have (Basic Qualifications):
  • Minimum 4 years trade experience
  • Basic math, reading and comprehension skills
  • Knowledge of the layout, fit-up, fabrication and installation of pipe, flanges, and values read and interpret trade drawing and/or blueprints utilizing both metric and standard measurements.

Specific Skills

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
  • 6 years of marine, shipbuilding, or construction experience.
  • Knowledge of setting and erecting units with proficiency in the use of Datum Lines Familiarity with Fit-up and alignment tolerances and Advanced blueprint reading skill.
